ICT in education reorganize the flow of knowledge for education and professional training. The success of the access to this content and the use of these technologies to the greatest number are dependent on the standardization of the ICT in education. The standardization initiatives are trying to cover the specifications inherent in the ICT in education in order to make possible the convergence of media. The multimedia convergence requires us to question the document definition. To standardize these technologies in education and training, it is necessary to achieve consensus favouring mediation between communities of teachers and community experts in multimedia. The advantage of MPEG-21 is to define a standardized framework that covers the entire chain of production and distribution of multimedia resources. Facing these challenges, the author analyzes through the MPEG family, the benefits of this approach to standardizing the metadata associated with the ICT in education and multimedia.
